Keeping 亚博体育官网 sports clubs active during lockdown
As President of Sport & Physical Activity one of my priorities during these uncertain times is to make sure that 亚博体育官网 students stay active and that our sports clubs keep interacting with their members.
One way that we have ensured this happens is through our highlights campaign. This involved giving each of our 32 sports clubs a day over the past 4 weeks to share their members highlights of the year! The students then posted their highlights on to their Instagram story and tagged their club and the 亚博体育官网 Sports Clubs Instagram so that it could be shared on both stories.
We have also encouraged clubs to take part in the 亚博体育官网 Sport #StaySafeStayHomeStayWell campaign. 亚博体育官网 Sport has been posting lots of challenges and home workouts throughout the lockdown period and we have had many clubs who have joined the classes as part of a home fitness session. We are also encouraging clubs to set fun challenges for their members to try in order to keep them engaged.
We have had many clubs taking part in the 5k challenge to support the NHS which involved clubs encouraging members to take part in the campaign then they started to nominate other clubs too to get as many students involved as possible! Furthermore, clubs have been taking part in their own challenges too. Our trampoline club raised 拢1,150 as they ran/ walked / cycled 1018 miles which is the equivalent to Galway in Ireland and back in aid of Grampian Women鈥檚 Aid. Our women鈥檚 rugby team ran 16663.5km in 27 days and raised 拢1,020 for the NHS Grampian endowment fund.
We managed to organise our final sports forum of the year online which involved 110 student representatives from sports clubs. Being able to still have this forum meant that student voices and opinions are still being heard even in these weird times. allowing us to make sure that we can continue planning for next year as we normally would do which will ensure that we are ready to get started again as soon as it is safe to do so.
Lastly, I would like to say that on behalf of all students we are extremely grateful for all of the work that all University staff have been doing over the past couple of months and we would like to say a huge thank you to you all!
